Proper Care For Your Irrigation System
An irrigation system makes watering easier, but it still needs attention throughout the season. Small problems such as hidden leaks, clogged sprinkler heads, or incorrect settings can quickly lead to dry areas, damaged plants, wasted water, and costly repairs. Routine irrigation system maintenance helps catch those problems before they affect your landscape or your water bill.
Spring System Opening
During your spring opening, we’ll turn on the water, test each zone, and check for visible leaks or winter damage. Skipping this important service could allow a damaged line or sprinkler head to go unnoticed once regular watering begins.
Because openings are completed early in the spring, the weather may still be cool and wet. Your regular watering schedule may remain off until conditions become warmer and drier. Once the weather changes, remember to switch your controller to Run or Auto.
Midseason System Check
Even if your system worked properly in the spring, sprinkler heads can become clogged, damaged, or knocked out of adjustment as the season continues. Because irrigation systems often run early in the morning, these problems can go unnoticed until parts of the lawn begin to brown, plants become stressed, or an unusually high water bill arrives.
A midseason irrigation check allows us to test each zone, correct coverage problems, identify leaks, and adjust the watering schedule for current conditions. This helps ensure your landscape receives the right amount of water throughout the hottest part of the year.
Fall Blowout
A fall blowout is essential for protecting your irrigation system through a Michigan winter. Simply turning off the controller is not enough. Water left inside the pipes, valves, and sprinkler heads can freeze, expand, and cause cracks or breaks that may require expensive repairs in the spring.
Schedule your blowout early enough to have the system winterized before freezing temperatures arrive. Once the system has been blown out, do not turn it back on.
