If you like to fish for walleyes in the Saginaw Bay and have an appreciation for the veterans of  the U.S. Armed forces, then you won’t want to miss  the 2015 Walleyes for Warriors fishing event that takes place on June 20 & 21at Veterans Memorial Park in Bay City.

This year will mark the fifth year for this great event, and the third year that Reder Landscaping has sponsored.

WFW is a recreational therapy event that is free to all veterans and active-duty service members.  It includes a day of fishing, prizes, food and camaraderie all designed to serve as a “Thank You” to those who have served our country.  Over 100 boat captains volunteer their boats and gas for the event, and over 200 veterans come out to fish.  “It is free for the Veterans, they have already paid”, says Nels Larsen, event founder.

Proceeds from the Walleyes for Warriors event go to Operation Injured Soldiers, which is a non-profit organization that works with disabled veterans.

For this year’s WFW event, all of the spots for veterans and boat captains have already been filled (you have to jump on this one early to participate!).   However, you can still register for the waiting list.  Other ways to participate include volunteering for the event, making a donation or “liking” Walleyes for Warriors on Facebook.
