Longtime Reder clients, Sally Marion and John Garner, graciously share their experience of working with Reder on their Bay City landscaping installation. We have completed several projects for them over the years and we enjoy having them as maintenance clients also.
How It All Started
We’ve been in this house nearly 30 years, what you see today didn’t happen all at once, it was gradual. When we initially moved in we worked on the house first, then decided to put in some landscaping and we asked Reder for their help. We started with a few flower beds and then added a little bit more, then a little bit more, then a little bit more and now I think we’re done. We started small just doing a little bit at a time. It’s a small house and a small yard but we wanted it to look nice. We had an initial design and added a little bit each year. This year we finally went all in and it was a pretty awesome year.
The Final Installation
When we decided we were ready to finish the entire project we of course called Reder Landscaping. Our designer, Dick Potter came out to the house and we finalized our wants and needs for the space. I knew I wanted an outdoor kitchen and that became the basis and everything was designed around that. Dick was a listener, he listened to my ideas and was flexible with changes. I think by looking over our home and what was already existing he could see the type of things we like.
We started our project in the wintertime. There is a lot to do, a lot of thought and a lot of design ideas and decisions to be made. When it came time for the crew to start I was really impressed with how much work it really entailed. It was a big job, bigger than I had anticipated.
The Crew
First of all they worked so well together, they knew what they were doing, it was obvious they’ve done it before. What really impressed me was by building this kitchen our entire yard was tore up, it was a mud pit, and now, it’s immaculate. It’s hard to believe they took it from that mud pit and brought it back looking better than it started.
It was obvious they cared about the little things. It was difficult getting their equipment back here, they had to tie back our arborvitae for more space. They used burlap to pull the arbs back carefully so they were not damaged. Their care showed when they had to move items in the yard like our swing. They put things back that they had moved, either in the same spot or an ever better place. They were always very cordial and very friendly. They were considerate about picking up at the end of the day, not the end of the week or the end of the project, they cleaned up after themselves every day. It was a very good experience.
Time to Sit Back and Relax
I’ve used the word awesome many times. A guest of ours was sitting in one of the chairs around this fire and said, this is so calming, so serene, I cannot believe we are in the middle of Bay City. This is much more than we expected, on a scale of 1-10 I’d give it a 12.

I would and have recommend Reder Landsaping, they can do anything. They can do the small stuff, they can do the big rock walls and beyond, they do it all. They’re hard workers, they’re fast workers and they’re friendly.
